Call the bench or send us the details.

Tell us what stopped working and what was stored on it. You will hear back from an engineer within a working day, usually sooner. Prefer to talk? The line rings through to the bench, so there is nobody standing between you and the person doing the job.

How to box it up for the journey.

Copy the address exactly as it readsBristol Data Recovery
Castlemead
Lower Castle Street
Bristol, BS1 3AG
Pack it firmlyPull the disk from a laptop, desktop PC, Mac or CCTV recorder and send that on its own. An external can stay in its enclosure. From a NAS or RAID, send bare disks with the bay number marked on each. Wrap them so nothing shifts.
Insured post, tracked and signedHang on to the counter receipt and insure the parcel for what it is worth; once it is out of your hands nobody can look after it. Phones and tablets are not accepted.
Put the form in with itWith a printed copy inside, the drive is booked in the moment the box is opened — print off the shipping form (PDF). Return postage is on us.

What people want to know before posting.

What address do I post it to?

The top line of the label is Bristol Data Recovery; below that, Castlemead, Lower Castle Street, Bristol, BS1 3AG. That is the name over the door, and a parcel addressed to Cardiff instead can be turned away at the desk. Send it tracked and insured. It is looked at the day it arrives, and the trip home is paid for whichever way you decide.

Is it possible to drop it off in person?

Yes, though most people in South Wales find it easier to post it. Cardiff has no counter, so anything handed in goes to the intake bench in Bristol — Castlemead on Lower Castle Street, BS1 3AG — open weekdays 9am–5:30pm. That is about 50 minutes east on the M4 over the Prince of Wales Bridge. Ring ahead and the paperwork will be waiting.

Can I email you instead?

The form above works better than a mailbox — it arrives at the support desk with the detail needed to open a case. If you would sooner speak to someone, ring 0800 6890668, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm.

What else should I put in the box?

Just the drive, any screws or leads that came off with it, and a printed, completed shipping form. For an encrypted drive, add the password or recovery key to the form. Keep the mains adaptor at home unless we ask for it.

No work starts before the parcel reaches us.

The look-over is free, you get one figure in writing before any chargeable work starts, and the device is handled as what it usually is — the only copy left.
